Screaming Power and The Carbon Zero Institute of Trinidad and Tobago (CZITT) Forge Strategic Partnership for UEnergyHub Caribbean

August 8, 2024 · Screaming Power

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. CZITT and Screaming Power have joined forces to establish the UEnergyHub Caribbean. This collaborative initiative aims to advance collaborative energy research, enhance resilience, and drive positive change across the region.

The UEnergyHub Caribbean will serve as a data hub and research entity, facilitating the analysis of energy demand and supply options. Its core functions include:

  • Education: fostering regional talent by providing a platform for learning and skill development.
  • Sustainability and outreach: leveraging energy data for sustainable practices and community engagement.
  • Climate change tracking: understanding and addressing climate challenges through data-driven insights.

The Caribbean is home to the majority of Small Island Developing States, which are experiencing the worst effects of climate change, yet 90% of the region's electricity comes from burning fossil fuels. More frequent and intense hurricane events are causing electricity supply disruptions. The Caribbean must undertake a transition to cleaner, more efficient and resilient energy systems.

Unlocking energy data is the path forward. The heart of UEnergyHub lies in its collaborative energy data hub network, where the first pilot is already functional in Canada. By providing a flexible, secure infrastructure, the energy data hub enables real-time access to unbiased energy research. Researchers, innovators, and policymakers can explore emerging AI technologies, smart grid solutions, energy efficiency, and renewable energy options using real usage and bill data.

Historically, ongoing access to real energy data has been elusive. UEnergyHub aims to change that. Through ethical partnerships with universities and others in Canada and Caribbean countries, CZITT and Screaming Power will accelerate the implementation of new technologies. By bridging the gap between energy suppliers and users, the market can evolve faster toward sustainable solutions.

As the UEnergyHub Caribbean takes shape, CZITT and Screaming Power invite stakeholders, academia, policymakers, and industry leaders to collaborate. Together, they aim to build a resilient, low-carbon energy ecosystem that withstands challenges and paves the way for a greener future.
